Sustainable Financing Instruments
Key Information
Green, social and sustainability financing instruments (collectively "Sustainable Financing Instruments") are one way of facilitating the flow of capital to the sustainable debt market.
Issuing
$3.7 billion
TD Bank has issued one sustainability and four green bonds to date.
In 2014, we issued a C$500 million green bond that was the first from a Canadian commercial bank.
In 2017, we published our inaugural TD Green Bond Framework and issued a US$1 billion green bond that was upsized from US$500 million.
In 2020, we released our Sustainable Bonds Framework and issued a US$500 million sustainability bond which was upsized from US$300 million, and was the first-ever sustainability bond in SOFR format.
In 2021, we issued a US$500 million green bond under the Sustainable Bonds Framework through a syndicate of underwriters that included minority-, women-, and veteran-owned business enterprises.
In 2023, we issued a US$500 million green bond under the Sustainable Bonds Framework. This was awarded by Environmental Finance for "Green bond of the year – financial institution (2024) ".
TD Securities is an active member of the Green Bond Principles (GBP), the Social Bond Principles (SBP), and the Sustainability Bond Guidelines (SBG) and is a participant in a number of International Capital Market Association (ICMA) working groups.
TD has prepared its Sustainable Financing Framework in line with the ICMA GBP, SBP and SBG. ICMA provides internationally recognized standards which outlines best practices when issuing financing instruments serving social and/or environmental purposes through global guidelines and recommendations that promote transparency and disclosure.
TD has obtained a second party opinion on the Framework and our independent auditor, provides us with annual assurance on the allocation of proceeds.
